I love how the Android haters translate $102 million into "no one is buying apps"

How well did Apple's app store do in its second year?

This is rich. Isn't software support one of the major reasons why Apple Mac users have been crapped on for years? Now that an Apple product has the best app support it's now a negative? Wow. Just wow. And good luck on certain apps coming to Android. It's mainly games that I've noticed but Epic and iD Software have specifically said they have no plans to develop games on Android. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more developers in different software segments who are simply not interested in Android development when looking at the revenues iOS is bringing in and what Android is bringing in. This is also the same reason several prominent Mac developers have depreciated Mac development over the years.

It's not a negative, it's just something I don't care about and don't want to pay for. If you want paid apps, iOS is probably more for you.

about 2.5x that.

and Android grew 861.5% while Apple grew 131.9%

So basically it's the same thing all over again, Apple users said Android sucked and Apple having the higher percentage of market-share automatically meant it was better which obviously they have backtracked on that now but Google has infinitely higher percentage gains and then Android will over take just like they did with handsets.

While Androids stats are very good, they are pretty misleading because they are coming from essentially zero to the current levels, so the increases are huge. Add a year to those stats and they start to look not so amazing.

And I agree, they (Google/Android) will eventually eclipse Apple's numbers, and it will likely happen a lot sooner than later, the growth is insane by any measure...

iOS has better free apps, so if you want the best apps either way iOS is the way to go.

Take this part of what you wrote. "I am fine with all new paid app development happening on iOS and then maybe sometimes being ported to Android. Let Apple users pay for the initial R&D through their App store, they seem to enjoy it, and even brag about it on forums." You're essentially saying that the Apple users like wasting their money on experimental software and brag about wasting their money. This has negative connotations to me. The rest of your post merely furthers this thought. Let the idiots waste their money footing the bill for R&D while we reap the benefits. This is essentially a furthering of the "sheeple" comments that gets passed around here fairly often.

@JD50. I hope you're understanding where I'm coming from. You'll never see me personally post anything negative without at least having a reason for it. You may not agree with the reason but I usually do have one. One of the things that sets me off is the idiocy such as that exhibited by people on both sides of the Apple vs Android debate. Sure, some are overly supportive of Apple but there are just as much if not more idiots who do nothing but hate on Apple. Look on the first page and you'll see a prominent example of the latter. Quite frankly it's tiring having to see these types of comments any time I say I have an Apple iPhone.

There is nothing in your post I don't agree with. I am sure Android will take over eventually. Its bound to happen with as many devices being made w/ android on them. How many years will it take though? If android kept on its astounding rate of growth, it would still take 2 years to reach the point that apple is at right now. Do you think that is possible? Do you think that is realistic?

The problem I have is all these phandroids saying its a good thing that people are spending a lot less money on their app store. That is not a good thing, no matter how you put it. Bottom line.

Nobody has shown me an app that began on android, then was converted over to iOS. That still hasn't happened. I am curious as to when that will start happening, if ever.

It's not their app store, it's Google's (or Amazon's or whatever). And phandroids are the ones spending less money. And spending less money is a good thing, no matter how you put it. Bottom line, indeed.

Dont you understand that if everyone was a freeloader like you the whole system wouldnt work? You need people to pay for apps (or click ads) in order for the system to work.

If every consumer on android was like you, there wouldnt be much development going on. If nobody was paying for apps, and nobody was clicking ads it wouldnt work. You should be happy people are paying for apps, on both iOS and android. You should be happy that people are clicking on ads. It enables you to be who you are and get those free apps.

I am not here to make the system work. You are more than welcome to make iOS system work with your money.

It's nice that you're man enough to admit you're wrong. Although you should never have disputed my correct assessment of bias and the snide insult contained in your post in the first place.

Good luck getting apps ported to the Android market when there is zero incentive to do so.

How is that a good thing?

im curious. how often do you apple people buy new apps? or even just DL free ones. I ask because ive had my phone for like a year and after like month 3 ive installed 1 new ap.

of those ive paid for 1 is now has its functionality baked into 2 if not more roms for free and the majority of the others all have to do with rooting/roming my phone.

I simply don't get it. outside of the random niche ap for your personal specific need what are people buying? there isn't a single ap i use where i find myself thinking "man i wish there was a paid version of this, because it would be better"

My paid apps:
Words with friends (bought it after playing the free version and getting sick of ads)
Nike+ GPS (use it for when i run and to challenge friends thru nikes website)
Angry Birds
Civilization Revolution
SimpleSense (there is a free version, but i bought the paid version so i can see my adsense channels)
Madden 2010 (bought when it was 99 cents)
Hipstamatic (there wasnt a free version available when i bought it)

Edit: Its not like I wish there was a paid app of every free app. But i have no problem with paying 99 cents for an app if I think it will be useful/fun/worth my time.

If you refuse to buy an app for 99 cents simply because its paid, you have much bigger problems.

never said i refuse to pay for cheap aps that do something i want. i just refuse to pay for aps i don't need. which happens to be close to 100% of paid aps. Im prob not alone here.

if the free aps do everything you need. why would you pay for a different one?

Well what apps don't you need? Are you ok with free apps with some ads?

Same here, after getting the initial apps on my phone I really don't need/care to pay for any others. All of the things I've wanted to have on my phone I've gotten through mostly ad supported apps.

In general I don't have a use for most apps. There is seldom a situation where I could use or would want to use an app during my day. Which makes me wonder WTF are people buying in the app stores that generates so much money

People have been developing free basic applications for computers since computers began... You've been drinking some strange apple flavored cool aid me thinks.
