I'd say all laptops can go indefinitely on hibernate, since that is a power-off state.

And so what if it can go for 30 days in standby? You can't f*cking use it when its in standby. That "feature" is total bullshit.

We got my mother the TimelineX 14" variant. Good consumer notebook to have lying around the house, but that's about it. The screen bezel, after ~5 months of use, is showing some warping (so it doesn't close flush with the body). Probably a function of how my mom was opening the screen, but tells you a little about the build quality. When I replace my current notebook (in sig, it's 4.5 years old), I'll probably get a ThinkPad - slight premium to get a notebook that will last another 5 years.

I looked at the x100 thinkpad, which is an 11.6" notebook. I think the newer model was a little cheaper than the acer I got, but its an AMD cpu and I wanted a little more battery life than it was reported to have.

Now...if Id known the trackpad on this 1830 was so meh (I didnt even consider that it might not be from synaptics) I might have gotten the thinkpad to start, as Ive always been fond of the trackpoint. I do, however, love the battery life of the Acer. I *might* give trade for an x100, but at this point, I really dont feel like going through the trouble of selling one to get the other.

you will get about 1fps watching youtube, a hot spot on your pants, and choppy voice/audio after you try to facetime someone for about 20 minutes with one of these.

and that's all the multitasking i'm talking bout.
oh please, theyve got more than enough power to manage youtube. i hit up youtube all the time. theyre not amazingly fast, but youre not paying for a workhorse as much as youre paying for mobility and battery life.

Basic SSD benchmarks: http://arstechnica.com/apple/guides/2010/10/116-macbook-air-ars-answers-your-burning-questions.ars/2

Using X-Bench, we saw the 128GB model—the APPLE SSD TS128C—give the following numbers:

Seq Uncached Write: 134MB/sec (4k blocks)
Seq Uncached Write: 158MB/sec (256k blocks)
Seq Uncached Read: 68.5MB/sec (4k blocks)
Seq Uncached Read: 165.8 MB/sec (256k blocks)

Random Uncached Write: 32.18MB/sec (4k)
Random Uncached Write: 116.5 (256k)
Random Uncached Read: 8.27 (4k)
Random Uncached Read: 108.56 (256k)

Plenty fast enough for me.
