No, it doesn't. It has an option that does not include the touch interface (read, DOES NOT INCLUDE NAV) which uses buttons instead, and that's an important distinction The nav version of the car means you get touch, means you lose most of your buttons. Heated seats were the simplest example.

I cannot stress this enough: my complaint is about touch screens. You warped this into insulting me and claiming I was lying.

For that, you win troll of the thread and an ignore.

Ford is dealing with baby boomer push back.

There is no doubt that touch interfaces will be the future.

You almost have to feel sorry for people that rage against things, and yet don't know what they're talking about. Almost. Driving a lower model (as charged) and raging over not having the higher end model's option package features = FAIL.

I don’t have any complaints with Ford’s 8-inch touchscreen with MyFordTouch. Responding to previous generational complaints that the touchscreen is too involved for simple functions like raising the volume, Ford incorporate knobs and buttons into the centerstack of the 2014 Fusion SE. There are radial radio dials and buttons for the defogger, heated seats and climate functions.

If you want certain features BUY THE RIGHT CAR. It doesn't mean they don't exist.

Both of you need to take it down a notch and get the subject back to CarPlay

If you mean capacitive screens like he have on phones and in current cars, I disagree. If you mean something like the bubble screen I linked to earlier, I can see that to some degree.

I do not see touch screens on the wheel, and I don't see WASD touch keyboards on nav systems doing that well. I see the phone taking over as the infotainment system, and the car simply has a pass through setup that displays what the phone wants, and exposes the phone to speed info, GPS antennas, compass and so forth.

I see the systems built into the car becoming overly "dumb" and letting your personal device do the work.

I see our in-car entertainment getting more like this in the future. Many people want 'on-demand' now and not typical AM/FM (same 10 songs all day long with the same commercials between them). I love satellite radio...I like the morning shows, shows like the Jason Ellis one, and the music I want to hear when I want it.

Subscription service and premium receivers aren't for everyone.

Engadget has a hands-on with the DIY Pioneer versions:

http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/17/pioneer-nex-carplay-handson/

Starts at $700 (zing! not cheap!) up to $1400. As they say tho, cheaper than buying a Ferrari 😀

I may have to pick one of these up for my E46 M3. At this point it has a single-disc CD player with a 6-disc changer. I presently have a DICE iPod adaptor hooked up in place of the changer but it sounds crummy and often doesn't work.

Hadn't read into car play much but this looks pretty neat. No way am I paying $700 for it (partly because my car won't support it without some mods) but because that's a lot of dough for some ease of use.

Once they get it integrated into new cars (maybe starting off with a $500 or $1000 tech package upgrade and eventually part of the car) then it'll really take off. That's what apple should push. IMO.

I'll be looking for this, or something similar, when I buy my next car. Although this is sacrilege for some of the car enthusiasts here, this is more important for me than say engine horsepower.

If I can get this for under $1000, it will be a steal as far as I'm concerned. Nav upgrades are often bundled together with other features I may or may not want, which means I'm spending $3000-5000 for a bunch of bundled options. However, I suspect what will happen is they'll bundle CarPlay with those same features, so I'll be shocked if I can get this as an upgrade for less than $1000 combined. It won't be so bad though if the bundle is with just a improved sound system.

I plan on buying a new car sometime between 2016 and 2020, so the timing is good for the CarPlay rollout.
