Price drop is because Apple just released the second generation minis.

2nd Gen 4GB model is now $199.00 and has an improved 18 hour battery life.

New 6GB model is $249.00

I think the color are bolder too.

How do you get the educational discount?

You go to the Apple Education section and navigate to their store. You DO need to be a student, however.

20 bucks is well worth the extended battery life

Add another $50 to that if you want the ac adapter and firewire cord that doesn't come with the new model.

yep, dun really know what kind of idiot decided to provide buyers with only USB charging capability =/ Free shipping and engraving on the 2nd gen at the apple store still make it a decent buy, specially when people are picking up comparatively tiny 1gb muvos only 30 bucks cheaper

the muvos are flash-based... different story altogether

Those of us from ATHD can probably find the cable/AC adapter for less than $30.

I'm sure you could get a bit of a discount, but I'd be curious to know when the last time was that you saw OEM ipod accessories at 40% off retail, as you suggest. Other than maybe eBay. I guess I'll also have to assume of course that it's all picked up locally or free shipping and no tax.

Wow!

18 hours is great, one less thing for the ipod haters to harp about.

My 2nd gen is still going strong though.

for those planning to get the new generation. the 2nd gen mini ipods do not come with the power adapter (firewire to outlet) which comes with the 1st gen mini ipods. it's another $30 to consider.

//krunk (^_^x)

ouch, my birthday present (thanks to citibank) is going to be a 4 gig mini that I was going to sell on ebay and then get a zen micro. Unless that new color micro comes out soon though, I'll stand to loose money in "trading" the mini in.

Never speculate in iPods 😉

I was having the same problem, go to the link posted directly above me.

Once there, fill in the info then, at least for me it says:

Great News! Your institution has an apple store.... blah blah link: "take me there"

skip that and click on the gratuitously smaller link that says:

Note: if you prefer, you can shop at the standard Apple Store for Education (link)

That should do it for you....hope this helps.
