what is the school looking for in the "statement of facts"?

i got a parking ticket for not displaying my parking permit. it was in my ashtray, where it normally is when i'm driving, because it's illegal to have stuff hanging from your mirror.

(besides, i drive with both windows down, and it's annoying as hell having that damn thing flapping around)

i have the oppertunity to appeal the ticket, but i dont know what the school is looking for in the statement of facts.

(and i sure dont know why they allow 1000 words maximum)

so, what would be my best course of action?







and dont tell me to pay the damn ticket. i pay more than any of you in parking fees anyway.
 
i got a ticket too, about an hour later that day i had gotten my parking ticket, gone to the car and there's a freakin ticket!!

not much you can do, our pass says must be displayed in order to be valid, otherwise tough luck
 
You're gonna lose. If the permit is not displayed in the proper location, you can't expect the parking attendant to scope around your car windows looking for it. Imagine doing that for 150-300 cars in a large lot, or for 4000-5000 cars at an entire university. Once again, don't fight it - if the permit is not displayed properly, it's a violation.

Well, in your statement of facts, you could (news flash), state the facts. 😉

Under the assumption that is was illegal to drive with anything hanging from the rear-view mirror, you display your permit in the ashtray (maybe add "where it is in plain sight" if it reasonably is)

If you appeal and lose, you don't lose a hand or something. Take a few minutes, work out a short statement as to the situation and let it ride.

As for the 1000 words. Would -you- like to read more than that when judging whether a ticket is reasonable or not?

It's only illegal to hang stuff on your mirror when you're DRIVING, not when you're parking. Just pay the ticket. You made a mistake and now you have to pay for it. You cannot contest it because you don't have a valid argument.

 
mmmm. this is actually interesting because it really is illegal to drive with things hanging off the mirror. does the school not have your permit on file though? All the schools I've been to have used stickers...something your school should consider.

As far as the school is concerned you let your friend borrow your permit.

well, if you used stickers, then the school couldnt capitalize off people failing to put up their parking passes, now could they?
