A few days ago I got a call that was a survey about fire safety. The girl asked me a few questions about our house, our smoke detectors and stuff like that, and at the end said "now because you participated, your name will be entered in a drawing, and there is a very very remote chance you could win." I was like all right, that's cool, and thought nothing more of it. Seems they called back yesterday, and I won. What did I win, you ask? How about a $1500 home security system? I'd have no use for it, seeing as how we live in the country and have three dogs, but I can do what I wish with it, like sell it, so it's all cool. I was pretty surprised by that. Not everyday you win $1500 worth of stuff. 🙂
 
I "won" one of those once. They install those systems free most of the time anyway. You have to pay a monthly fee for "monitoring" after it is installed...that's where they get ya.
 
yep, $30/month for "monitoring and connection." I don't plan on using it, so I don't care.... Hmmm, who do I know who would want this....? 🙂
 
I was living at my parents house for the summer (college years) and they live in the boonies too. So i declined as well. 🙂

ummm...please tell me you are being sarcastic.

They give those away for free. You can't get the equipment without agreeing to the monthly monitoring. Its like the "free" cell phone that places always advertise.

They will give these "$1500" security systems to anyone who signs up for X months of monitoring. usually like 3-5 years worth. I think the only thing you've won is many more telemarketing calls.
