So I and the wife had 3 vehicles, 2 cars (CTS and Corvette) and our old truck (Mazda Ranger). Since she works at home and I mostly ride public trans, metro, we wanted to get it down to 2. So we sold the truck real fast and just got rid of the Corvette yesterday. So CTS is still for sale and we have been looking at trucks.
Problem is she wanted one for 5k, less than 100k, and has the rear seats that face forward (not on the side like older trucks or the Ranger). Well best I could find was a 05 Nissan Titan with 94k for $7600. So I e-mail several times and never heard back. I show my wife as it’s a full size truck not mid like we wanted. So I call after she is ok with it and no pickup, try again and got the this person has not setup voice mail message.
Well the phone rings right after I call and I pickup to hear some guy yelling Vietnamese at me. So with my wife beside me I hand it to her and say its for you, thinking it was one of her brothers. Well it was the guy selling the truck. So we go to see it and its ok and test drive it. She calls him back, he was never there, and I tell her to see if he will take less. She offers $6500 and he says already had someone offer $7k. So we get it for $7100, good deal.
When he comes to get the money he tells my wife he did not show it to some “Americans” (American I have learned means white) as he did not trust them. So in the end we got a good truck because my wife is Vietnamese, and even then nagged him to sell for $7100.
So has knowing a foreign language or other weird thing helped with a deal or helped out more then you think.
