Streams my music and vids to my iphone, seamlessly. I take bus to work and its nice not to store all this on my iphone now. just saying.

airvideo 2.99 - plays everything you throw at it (no music) - seriously i've seen it pump 2.5megabit to the iphone/ipad over 3G - really high quality but man it can eat up your cpu cycles if you have a couple of people on your server.

I will examine this later. I have been looking at a way to stream my music from home, my phone is 16GB and my library is 20+GB.

Agreed. I don't know what's going on but recently it's been taxing my system to the point of the video failing, when before it worked flawlessly on the same PC. Don't know what happened.

they raised the bitrates? it has 3 settings now for local wifi, remote wifi, 3G. the defaults changed (higher) imo. It is extremely good at handling the variations of 3G - the most fussy customer - my 4 year old - who has the patience of nothing. (no buffering!).

After playing with this a bit, it is basically just what I was looking for. I wanted an affordable way to stream my home music library to my phone and this does that.

I really like the fact that you can download your files from home as well, I just wish that they would then be added to the iPod app.

Very nice- works perfectly. I could never really say that about things like SimplifyMedia which I always found to be flaky.

I just hope they make a version for Linux. Then I could run it directly on my server where all my many TBs of media files are. Otherwise it works via sharing the network fileshares in OSX or Windows, but having to leave a second machine running to use it isn't so great in my case.

Keeping fingers crossed for a Linux version eventually. (There is a Linux version of ZumoDrive, so I can reasonably hold out hope).

Not to be paranoid, but I'm not sure if i like the fact that this has a web component as well where you can browse and/or delete all the files in the directory you point it to over the web. Are your files shared when using this service?

Right at the top of their TOS 'You have sole responsibility for all User Files that you store and/or share on ZumoCast servers through use of the Service. You acknowledge and agree that Zecter will not be responsible for any failure of the Service to store or secure User Files, for the deletion of User Files stored on the Service, or for the corruption of or loss or any data, information or content contained in any User Files.'

Also, is it storing the files on their servers? 'The Service provides the ability to store files (“User Files&#8221😉 and access them on a variety of devices including computers and smart phones. The Service stores User Files on a server and allows users to access them from there a number of ways.'

Whoa.. was going to give this a try this weekend, but glad I didn't install it now.

you know I got some issues with this software. I was looking for something just like this b/c Simplify Media is not around anymore and I was psyched to try this. But it sucks.. like it goes on and offline all the time and it crashes, and can't find my PC more than 75% of the time. and I know its not my setup because both AirVideo, LogMeIn, MobileMe, etc are all working with my iphone and my computer. So I don't know if something is wrong with their servers or something but the concept is awesome but it rarely if ever actually works for me. I emailed and asked for help but didn't get anywhere.. if anyone has suggestions or has a reccomendation for similar software to stream my 400 gb of music from my computer to my iphone over 3g or wifi, let me know! thanks

Hey guys, David from Zumo here. Sorry for the confusion in the TOS. We DO NOT upload anything to our servers right now. The section in the TOS is relevant for our other product, ZumoDrive. We are also considering a feature that allows you to share content with others. (which may upload content to our servers for quicker access). However, we'll make it very clear whenever we are uploading content elsewhere. I hope this clarifies things.

@TheGizmo, Could you contact us at support@zumocast.com? We've had some connectivity issues with an older version of the software, but have not heard reports of this recently. Let us know and we'll help you get to the bottom of it. Thanks!

streamtome is a good alternative too. it does mp3 and video.
i'd say other than the dynamic dns built into airvideo - streamtome handles mp3 and video 90% as well. reliable - not as good at bitrate handling.

also 3gunrestrictor works great on the apps.

David from Zumo - embrace the JB community - make sure your app works well with 3gunrestrictor - if i want 2.5mbit over 3G - that's what i want - also if you really want to sell your product - make a PC and MAC (and android) client.

That would be a product differentiator

I don't think you can delete files in a directory over the web: when I go to the web component the only options I have are to download/rename/move(to another shared folder) a file if only one is selected, or move files if multiple files are selected. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me like the software uploading anything is strictly voluntary- and seems to just upload from a selected file on a local machine to the remote share.

I've been using this thing for three days straight without a single connection issue, so no idea what could be causing trouble for others. So far I'm really impressed!

@Zaap

Right now you cannot delete files over the web interface. It's disabled to prevent users from accidentally deleting their files. 🙂

As for the download feature, you are correct. You are simply transfering the file from one source to another. Both of which are presumably your own (unless you've given out your login credentials).

Let us know if you have any issues or questions.

Anyone know of an app that can play music/video files through NAS? I'd hate to have a computer running 24/7.
