Hi im sorry im new around here and even newer to the world of computers lol, i am looking to build my own as i have been reading a lot around this sight the past couple of days. I am looking to create an Athlon as i have read they are superior gaming computers, and in fact that is mainly what i plan to do, my budget is in the area of around 1000-1200$ but not all at once, i am looking to buy piece by piece, i have been looking around and reading and shopping and i have come to make a first decision on what i might purchase, looking for some suggestions or improvements.... i realize for this budget i will not get a super computer but i think i can get a pretty decent system. i was thinking maybe the
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 512k 2.0GHz --i read they have some overclocking room to play with while this processor is not the best i am guessing with the overclocking i can make it pretty good? correct me if i am wrong-- maybe looking to spend 200 at most on a CPU
EPoX 8KDA3J NForce3 250Gb Motherboard S754-- i have read also this allows room for overclocking but is a good motherboard in itself, for around 100$ if there is a better one maybe staying under 140 or so throw out some suggestions please.
I was looking around for ram for this type of setup and i was thinking maybe to start off 256 mb of ballistix, as i hear this is good ram i understand that 256 may not cut it but this is just for the first couple of weeks as i will be strapped for cash, then i may purchase more 256 or a 512 stick, but if i am wrong in the ram department it is really where i get confused with the low latency high latency i read it matter not much but then again i read it helps for overclocking a suggestion would be nice,, hopefully looking to stay around 100$ for initial ram,, will spend more in following weeks.
Antec Sonata Black ATX MidTower w/ 380W PSU for the case i was thinking i read it was roomy and leaves rooms for me installing some fans or whatnot.. for 98$ is there a better deal i could get or maybe a little more expensive for a lot better product?
I dont really store much to my computer, just mainly the a game or two as i usually stick with one game so i was thinking a Samsung Sata 80 GB 7200rpm 8mb drive, for around 70$ will the smaller harddrive in return end up hurting me if i look to overclock? maybe spending 100$ or so there is a faster one?
i am leaving out the cpu/heatsink fan as i can determine that myself and the videocard as i have my sights pretty locked on theMSI ATI RX9800PRO Video Card, 128MB DDR, 256-bit as i read you can soft mod it to perform a little better and it is only around 200$
Any help is greatly appreciated, please dont yell at me and tell me to read the articles at the top and read more because i have spent two weeks reading and im still a little slow.. lol
Oh and if someone would please explain to me if i had the processor above its the amd athlon 54 3000+ the ram i would want would be 3200? even if i was looking to overclock a little bit? i dont understand what the difference between pc3200 and 4000 or 3500..
