Apocalypse Now

Redux seemed pretty long - I had to split it up into two sessions. I could understand why they left out some of the scenes in the original version (like the entire scene at the French plantation).

The movie gets really weird at the end. I read an article about Redux when it came out and Martin Sheen said the filming conditions made everyone crazy making the movie - that definatly came through towards the end.

Didn't Martin have a heart attack during filming?

I've watched the original movie many times and it is one of my all time favorites. I have the redux version too but I do not feel that the additional scenes added anything. The scenes with the Playboy chicks were especially creepy.

Yeah, I didn't quite get that? What's up with that? Did the helicopter crash or something and they were turned into prostitutes?😕

I like the first part and the last part of the movie, because of Duvall and Brando, both are as crazy as crazy can be.

Yup,he had a heart attack--not all that old back then either. Of course he was the second choice for the part of Willard. Some filming was done with Harvey Keitel,Coppola didn't like what he saw and started over with a new actor Martin Sheen.

I also have the redux version,I can see why most all of those added scenes were deleted. Especially the one with Kilgore and the Napalm changing the wind direction for surfers--Geeezzzz.

Both great movies, the scenes that were cut from the original were definitely not needed. It was interesting to see them, though.

There's also a WONDERFUL documentary about the making of the movie called "Hearts of Darkness" and it was shot by Eleanor Coppola. It has some really great and intimate footage of the making of the film and what Coppola had to go through in order to get it done.

You should!! It's one of the greatest, if not the greatest, war movie of all time.

I disagree strongly. It's great if you want a drug induced rambling with nothing to show at the end but a giant WTF.

Do you know anyone that was in that war? Talk to them, then get back to me.

The Apocalypse Now scene in Jarhead is pretty funny...

AN is a great movie with great dialog...Redux adds some extra scenes and some new editing...both are great

Good movie but I didn't like redux as much. I think the playboy bunnies thing was that the heli ran out of fuel and the station had none but it was a pretty stupid scene.
