Aphex's App of the Week - Week of 10/3/08
[__ies4osx__]
Licenses: Free
Info: Testing your websites on Internet Explorer? has never been so easy. it's as simple as doubleclicking the installer. ies4osx will download all the necessary files and install them in a convenient app package named "Internet Explorer 6.0" on your Desktop folder.
My Take: Don't get me wrong, i HATE IE with a passion. But the one thing that's been keeping my parents (and some others) from fully making the switch to OSX and leaving XP behind is the lack of Active X support in OSX. Some websites are ActiveX only, which means Mac users were forced to use Parallels or Bootcamp to get in. Well this does the trick perfectly. Download Darwine first and install to Applications, then download ies4osx and run. It will download IE6 directly from MSFT and create a working app in OSX. Very low cpu usage while running and it works perfectly for us here, very impressed.
Please Note: Tiger users will need to install X11 from their Tiger Install DVD.
