I'm looking for a $69 circuit city deal that I can upgrade with a CD-ROM that I burn from the internet. Will any Apex player work, or only specific models?

Are they still available?

Thanks!

Well, I read some net-leads and eventually ended up at the Nerd-out forums. Then I set out to Wal-Mart(s) and ChimpUSA(s). I got an Apex AD-1500 with the serial number beginning with A, B, C, or D. I downloaded a file, burned it to a disc, and put it in the DVD player. The firmware re-wrote itself, and everything is great. :)

We're going to probably pick up an Apex for the bedroom since they're so cheap. Just be forewarned, the quality is not up to most other manufacturer's levels. I heard the same thing when I got mine and didn't believe it. In fact, my 660 model ran just fine for about a year and a half. But one day I tried to turn it on and nada. Scrambled display and then totally dead. Oh well. Mine was $139 at the time. For $69, if I could get a couple years out of it, I guess it would be ok.
