APEX AD-1600 DVD player can't play VCD

I just found out the Apex ad1600 from Fry's is not compatible with either original VCD or CDr VCD. Did anyone bought it and able to see VCD? Please let me know if you have anyway to work around with it, thanks.

A lot of people had reported that the new "batch" of Apex dvd players were not VCD compatible or hackable.

search the hot deals forum under "longs". people bought them there during the black friday sale and posted a link on how to hack them to play vcds.

aren't there some that can play VCD but only if it's on a CD-RW?

Apex was too cheap to pay the patent licensing fees to play VCDs.
