I go in to ChumpUSSR this morning first thing. One on the shelf (D serial number, so flashable). It rings at $57.00. Less the $20 rebate ... is 37.00, or ~$40 with tax (rebate prints at register). One of the sales droids walked by as the deal was happening and said, "It's ringing wrong." After 15 minutes of confusion, the manager said, "give it to him."

I'm glad I missed out on the SmartBargains deal at $45. Your mileage may vary ... they may be correcting this as we speak.

Cheers,
Cran

This sounds more like a comedy bit than a hot deal lol ....

Sounds good though, thanks for the heads up.

Just bumping this thread.

I just got back from CompUSA where I purchased an APEX 1500 for $57.02 ($60.30 with TAX) Take off the $20 for the rebate and that's $40.02 HOT HOT DEAL!

The rebate might be online (I'm not sure) but the misprice ($57.02 instead of $79.99) seems to only be in store

EDIT: The rebate does NOT seem to be available online. Even though the Apex 1500 is listed in the "Advertised Specials/National Circular", it's listed at $79.99 with no rebate mentioned at all.

Woohoo the Apex AD-1500 is IN STOCK in Portland/Tacoma/Tukwila (at least according to their website they are).

Let me get this straight, this is region hackable so you can watch DVDs from anywhere in the world, right?

Thanks for the deal ! I saw the ad yesterday and thought "Why does this have to be on the Lenoxx DVD Player ... wish it was on the Apex AD-1500" ... and had it not been for this thread, I would have never looked at the ad again and find that it is for the Lenoxx DVD2003 AS WELL AS for the Apex AD-1500 :D

Anyway, picked up the last one @ my local CompUSA. The box was open, but everything inside seemed to be sealed. Rang up @ $57.02 at the checkout counter ... AND I ALSO PICKED UP THE FREE COPY OF THE NEWLY RELEASED "E.T: The Extra Terrestial" DVD along with this DVD Player.

Hope you guys all know this, but the very last page of the CompUSA ad this week says that if you buy any advertised DVD player this week, you get the "E.T" DVD for free INSTANTLY ... no rebate no nothing. If any of you forgot to pick-up your free DVD, go back to CUSA with your receipt and they should honor it.

Now I have a question ...

How do I know I got a unit with a "D" serial number ? The serial number of my unit is : A1500nnnnnnBnnnnLEnn (where all the 'n's are numbers). Is this a "D" serial number unit ? Probably not ... but is this a "B" serial number unit at least ? If so, will I be able to upgrade the firmware using a CD ?

Any help appreciated !

BTW, my CompUSA ran out of the Rebate Coupons. They said they'll get some soon, but I am not sure I trust them.

Does anyone have an extra rebate coupon for this DVD Player ? If so I would very much appreciate a copy (or scan). I'll be more than happy to reimburse your mailing cost.

Thanks very much in advance !

psx:

Serial number concerns are regarding the first, that is, the leftmost letters. A thru D (that is A, B, C, and D) serials are flashable, so yours (starting with A) is. SV serials are not. Don't buy the SV serials.

Glad you got in on the deal. And props for pointing out the free ET DVD, which I didn't get. This means a trip back to the Chump.

Cheers,

Cran

Good evening, I read somewhere that this will not play svcd or vcd. Can anyone who has this dvd player check if it will play vcd's or svcd's. Thanks in advance.
Is this deal still on tomorrow?

Nerdherd,

I don't know about the SVCDs you asked about, but I do know that this DVD player definitely plays VCDs.

I own one and they play without problem.

One final note.

These Apex 1500s sometimes have bad trays. The first one that I bought last year would not close after opening.

Get one that works out the door and you should be fine thereafter.

My suggestion, then, is to test the unit in the store. So after you make the purchase, pull it out of the box ask if you can test to make sure it's OK. Plug it in, make sure the tray works, etc..

If I had done so when I bought mine, I'd have saved myself the hassle of a return trip.

Once I got one that worked, though, I was extremely happy with it. It works great, and the hacks available for it are a real boon.

Thanks very much Cran, for the nice explanation !! Now I am off to finding the best hacked BIOS for this :D

Good luck for the "E.T" DVD. Beware that their system (at least the CompUSA I went to) did NOT automatically make the DVD free ... but once I pointed it out to the cashier and showed the ad, he gladly did it. Otherwise the DVD was $22 something.
