tantomio

Banned
freshly swiped this from crazycooldeals

its been $44.95 for awhile but now has a $5 rebate

Supports DVD-Video, SVCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 CDs

How is the quality of this player? I've got the ADA-1100W, and it feels rather cheap. Will this player last?

after reading some reviews on vcdhelp.com I have opted to pay 10 more for the mintek 1600 at target.

Alot of people complained the player cant play actual retail dvds very good and a lot of people also report
that their player died after 6 months.
but what do you expect for 39.99..this model has been cancelled for a long time as well I believe.

Can you use eithe the Mintek or Apex DVD player as an Audio CD player with no TV hooked up? I would like to use it to simply play cd-s and MP-3 CD's without a TV attached.

Yes you can.

And this is very hackable!

I am under the impression that only certain versions can be hacked (there are 4 different chip combinations available), and then it's only for the region. Are you saying that you can hack the macrovision?

Yes, if it plays SVCDs it will play VCDs. Every DVD player within the last few years should be able to play VCD, though usually ones older than a couple years have problems with burned discs.

Yes you can.
How do you do that when you have no LCD panel in the front?

My question exactly.

it says svcd... does that also mean regular vcd?
I hate to disagree here, but no it does not mean always.
Philips sued Apex a few months back and forced them to pull VCD support from many of their
lower end players and the 1200 was on this list.

At one time the 1200 could play VCD's, then the ability was removed, then I think they may have snuck it
back in, but I am not sure.

Check out the forums at nerd-out.com.

Bottom line is that not all the 1200's can play VCD's. Blame Philips.

I love mine, bought it at Sears and already have my rebate back (see my original post: Text) and replaced my Sony that constantly froze in the middle of the movie (even on a brand new DVD). Haven't regretted it since - very satisfied with the output.

Actually Best Buy sells a KLH Digital (translation: it's an Apex...Apex Digital bought the KLH named, added "Digital" to it, and sell similar DVD Players/Home Systems under that name) DVD Player that is in my opinion the *best* lowend DVD Player on the market. Why? Simply because it does everything all of the other lowend players will do (DVD, SVCD, VCD, mp3, jpeg) but also has WMA Support. In addition, it has COMPONENT Outputs as well as BOTH Optical and Coaxial digital outputs. I also like the fact that it has a tray that completely slides out and not the little door that plops down then the tray comes out (awkward way to describe it, I know).

The Best Buy website lists it as $46.99 right now, but last Saturday it was $37.99 (after $5.00 rebate). The price fluctuates, but generally is ~$39.99.

thanks for the tip Atrac

But is this DVD player region free? Can it be hacked?

And does it play everywhere? 110-220 Volts?
