if you are a serious photographer which program is better? I check with ebay and hard to decide which one is better?

might want to check the digital and video camera forum ... i used both and eventually settled on aperture due to it's tighter integration with ilife/iwork/itunes. it just made my life a little more simple. I never much cared for the lightroom interface/workflow either. you can snag aperture through the mac app store on the cheap.

Only used Aperture, it's nice and only 90 bucks on Apple App Store. Lightroom is pushing almost 400 bucks, more tools and more powerful. I like the way Jared Polin (fro knows photo!) uses lightroom in his youtube videos. Almost makes me wanna switch.

In the end, download both trials and see what you like.

Aperture.

My reasons:

1) Full Screen Mode
2) Books
3) Editing Bricks as opposed to having individual brush bullets on the image (makes managing any edits MUCH easier for me)
4) UI (it just feels better to use)
5) Searching/Tagging feels more natural

Overall, it's a lot of subjective reasons, but I just found that Aperture fits my workflow better than Lightroom does. I love Lightroom, it just didn't have enough to allow me to work in it 100%.

does both have EXIF support? I like to see every photo with EXIF I doubt Aperture 2 and Lightroom 2 will be albe to read EXIF from photos

I would be surprised if either Aperture 1 or LR1 didn't fully support reading exif, much less later versions.

Either way, yes, LR3 definitely supports exif, iptc tags, etc...

I miss the integration of Aperture (or more specifically, my wife does - she's the photographer), but I like Lightroom a lot more.

My advice would be to download the trial versions of both and play around. They're competing programs, so they're always going to be trying to one-up each other, sort of like Intel & AMD. I used to like Aperture a lot more until I got into Lightroom 2.0. Personal preference I guess.

Unfortunately LR3 and Aperture 3 demo will not run on Powerbook G4 that is why I ask many of you. :( Both Adobe and Apple did not say about EXIF on old versions

I'm pretty sure that you don't want to run either of those on a powerbook G4

Aperture ran like shit on my 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo macbook pro so I could not imagine running it on a G4

I use Lightroom. I haven't used Aperture enough to compare. Most reviews say Aperture's file organizing and interface are better but LR has better post-processing quality. I guess you could buy third-party plugins for the $ you save over LR, but it's nice to have everything in one panel. In particular, I'm very impressed with the sharpening, NR and lens correction tools in LR.

LR 2 lacks with Photoshop Element intergration while Aperture 2 works great with iPhoto....I find iPhoto alright but I am more comfortable working with Photoshop Element.
