i'm interested in buying a new monitor and my friend was going off about aperture grills and shadow masks. i don't know much about the subject myself, but according to him, shadow mask monitors are better for text and other stuff, while aperture grill monitors look more colorful... i'm most interested in games looking their best, so would you recommend an aperture grill monitor? just how much better are they than shadow mask ones? i was thinking about getting a samsung 900nf monitor, is this aperture grill or shadow mask? thanks for any help!!!

Yes I would recommend an aperture grill for gaming. The Samsung 900NF is an excellent choice.

Aperture Grille monitors have much better color and brightness consistancy than Shadow Mask monitors. Of course, they cost more, too.

Aperture grill monitors are generally better, they have those two lines on the screen, but you only really notice that if you look for it.
