Very curious to check it out. I liked the first one (as well as lightroom) but always ended up back in Photoshop since I'm so familiar with it by now.

It actually looks very nice:

Aperture 1 is a piece of crap imo. Biggest waste of $$ I've ever spent on software. Wonderful organizational tools but terrible GUI (can we say LAG on a quad-core system?).

However this release is looking mighty nice...whole new GUI....

seems to be cheaper too, $199

Wasn't the original $299 (down from $499)?

Not sure...I was very confused about Aperture 1.5 as far as the software went...amazing, amazing organizational tools, but terrible GUI. I couldn't believe Apple would release something like that. They've definitely fixed it this go-around! Might have to switch back from Lightroom, haha!

Also check out their photo book features...I'll definitely be trying that! :D

well, nice to see. I've switched to lightroom because it's a bit faster. But the majority of my stuff is still sitting in Aperture. nice to see the price drop as well... too bad I can't upgrade the edu version to the non-edu version (I don't think..)

There's no mention of performance increase though...

Yeah I switched to Lightroom too. I really like it over Aperture 1.5, but I'm downloading the Aperture 2 trial right now to see how it fares. It looks really nice...

Hmm.. i find it odd that they didn't make a bigger deal out of this update. Everyone at the recent PMA was wondering what Apple and Adobe were up to and there wasn't any news of a new version (that I read about, very possible that I missed the stories). So I'm curious why they made it a semi silent release.

I'm installing the trial at the moment and I'll give you a heads up as to how I like it when I'm done.

EDIT: General first impressions, are very good! I'm liking the new UI, much faster startup and picture loads. I'm going to import more of my library and get a better feel for how it all works. I definitely like the integration with iPhoto and the new tool tab based layout. :) Thumbs up to Apple!

i still haven't tried it.. but from the feedback, it seems like and overly positive review. A couple of things though, has anyone tried upgrading the 1.5 academic w/ a retail upgrade? yes, highly unlikely to work... someone w/ a 1.0 academic version failed, but i figured why not ask about 1.5..

and secondly, Aperture 2.0 still won't let you import IPTC data from the sidecar file... WTF?!?
