APCC UPS Help

I currently live in a dorm at Ohio State and in the past 1 year that I have lived here I have gone through 3 PSUs due to power problems in the dorm i believe. I have just purchased a new PSU and decided I needed an UPS to protect it and the rest of my system. At the minimum, the UPS must protect my computer with a 430W PSU and a 19" monitor. As all of the UPS should provide plenty of backup time, I care more about better power protection. For roughly the same price I can get these 3 UPS, which would fit my needs best? APC SmartUPS 900 or BackUPS 1250 or BackUPS Pro 1000.
What is the difference between the 3 different lines of UPS?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think your best bet is the UPS Pro. It offers Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR provides 'clean' power, compensating for sags or surges in power) while I don't believe the standard Back UPS does. I have used two models of the Back UPS Pro in an area that has pretty 'dirty' power and have had very good luck with them. I believe the Smart UPS has the added feature of shutting down an unattended system. If anyone finds my info incorrect, please point it out, as I only spent a brief amount of time researching this stuff.

Has anyone had any experience with Tripplite or Belkin UPS? How do they perform in relation to the APC ones?

I'm using a Belkin - Universal UPS 800VA on my system. Our power is clean where I live and really only goes out when we have a major storm. The UPS keeps my system running for like 20mins and thats even with me surfing the net. 😉 I got it basicly for I won't lose my data I'm working on.

The UPS saved me from loosing my data many times all ready. Some times when the power-comany wants to work on the lines and turns off the power on you. lmao

Actually, they will all allow you to shutdown in a power crisis, using their software, some third party, or software built into the OS (2000/XP).

I'm running an APC BackUPS Pro because of the 'clean' power argument, a reasonable battery backup time, and it has ethernet (CAT5) protection. This should do everything you want.

The SmartUPS line is a souped up version with more conditioning, and more consistent output, but they usually run more expensive. It probably won't provide anything that you will see better than the BackUPS Pro.
