APC UPS 550 battery....

How long should the battery last in a UPS? Right now it only lasts for 30 seconds and then dies. Normally it should give 10 minutes or so. Thx.

If the load it is supporting has not changed since you first put it into use, then it's time for a new battery. If you've added some power hungry devices to it since then...

Do you happen to still have the funky rj45 to usb cable? Can you use it to analyze the load and/or life of the battery? If it is around three years old, it will need a new battery and they are the priciest componentry so you might want to just get a whole new one.

* How old is the battery?
* (Output Power Capacity = 330 Watts)... What percentage load is it having to power?

the unit is only 17 months old, the model is a BE550G which under normal current drain should give 10 minutes more or less. Instead it quits after only 15-20 seconds and power chute is now telling me the battery is not good. Waiting to see what APC plans to do, either repair or replace according to their website. So if they decide to replace it under warranty thats fine, or send a new battery , that will work also providing its not something wrong with the unit itself. Either way I still need another UPS so can you recommend something?

I bought one of these for my office PC and dig it. Cyberpower's software has gotten to par with APC's as of late, but what I like is the readout screen.

ok so what i did last night was to place back the battery into the UPS and plug it in to the wall. Somehow it seemed to work so I reconnected all of my computer and monitor, installed powerchute software and check the charging progress. I noticed that it was charging very slowly, much slower than I remembered. After charging all night the percentage charge was on 73% of full capacity. I shut down my computer, unplugged the UPS from the wall and reconnected. Now the green light was flashing red/green and powerchute is telling me the battery is not good. Suggestions to try? It seems the battery is really not good?

Charge the battery outside the UPS with a smart/automatic charger.
That allows you to know if the battery can be charged closer to 100%.
