I have the APC Back-UPS ES Series 500 (Model BE500). It's the one that has a serial port connection to the computer. I plugged in the serial cable to both the back of the computer and the port on the UPS. I installed the PowerChute Plus program that APC has on their website, but during installation, the install program could not detect the UPS. I figured that the serial port had to be 'refreshed', so I cancelled the installation and rebooted the computer. After rebooting, I tried the installation again and the install program could not find the UPS.

Anyone else have this problem or have any solutions?

thanks,
don

Figures that APC would perform like this again. Return it and get a TSi UPS.

Serial port is enabled in the BIOS. Still, no UPS being detected.

Any other suggestions?

Are you using a regular serial cable or the one provided with your UPS?

AFAIK, APC uses their own custom serial cables for their UPS units. I had to search all over the web for pin diagrams so that I could solder my own cable instead of buying their outrageously expensive ones.

Do you have the right end plugged into the UPS? Do you have the latest version of PowerChute Plus?
