I bought one in chicago. It wasn't on the clearance shelf, but rang up to that price anyway. None left at chicago elston and north avenue stores.

My ups battery just died (after 4 years of faithful service). On my way to staples now, let's see if I can get two of these :)

What clued you in that it was dead? These aren't like alkalines where they start oozing fluid are they? (yes I'm a battery noob)

When my belkin one failed it was only able to power my computer for less than 15sec, down from a few minutes when new. You can take them apart and buy replacement batteries online.

Naperville, IL store did not have any when I came there
this morning, but the Chicago story makes me believe
this is a real thing and a scorching deal can still be had.
Any reports from Bloomingdale, IL store?

It's only able to power my system for a few seconds instead of several minutes like it used to. Plus it has a battery test light that's going off.

None in the two Columbia, MD stores, Hanover, MD store, and the Laurel, MD store.

All they had were the 1200va and 1500va.

Yea, I checked checked stock on some stores in the Los Angeles area. No luck. :(

This thread reminds me of a great deal I got at Staples once.

So Staples was advertising a generic 350va ups for $10 after rebate. I went to the store and was unable to find any stock on the shelf. I asked Staples guys if they had anymore of these items. He said, "Oh no, we are out of those....but I will sell you THIS one for the same price." He was refering to a 900va Conext UPS. I asked how much it would cost? He said, "Oh, the after rebate price."
I walked out of the store paying just $9.97 for that thing. :D

That is what I was thinking. Unfortunately I tried 2 stores today and came up empty. One of them didn't have any UPS in the store. I found that kind of strange. There is one kind of out of the burbs that I am going to check tomorrow.

On the one i was able to buy, the battery test result page that came with it said it passed on 12/07/2004. I heard lead-acid batteries can go bad if left uncharged for over a year.
