Apartments in Norfolk area

Anyone familiar with the general area around Norfolk? I'm moving down there mid-July and I have no clue as to where to live. I've called around and there are very few apartments available next month so my choices are very limited. I'm looking into the Chesapeake and Virginia Beach area right now. Job will be in the Norfolk area.

I'm pretty sure that a co-worker will be transfering down there with me so I'll need a 2 bedroom place for around $800. I'm willing to pay up to $1000. Any recommedations would be appreciated. Thanks.

I lived in that area for 4 years. I would not recommend Norfolk - alot of areas are in/near the slums/ghettos (my opinion of Norfolk is low but I was in the Navy so I hated my life then and the sh*t from the Navy).

I lived in two apartment complexes in Chesapeake (1 off of Battlefield Blvd and 1 near Great Bridge) and two places in Va. Beach ( 1 apartment was only 5 blocks from the beach).
I liked both areas alot and they were somewhat away from Norfolk/Naval base and driving into Norfolk took about an half hour.
