I'm an online ordering nut...i'll order food, and all sorts of stuff in bulk online to save a few $$$. But recently i moved and the apts I'm at will not accept packages. I work from 7-4 so theres no way for me to sign for things. So it appears I am stuck either getting a PMB box at like a UPS store where they sign for you, having them leave it on my doorstep, or picking it up at various local facilities which I'm not sure i want to do (I live in Vegas - shipping facilities are not in the most "prime" areas). Is there any other ideas? I'm leaning towards the PMB - its like $10 a month but after a while that could add up to a losing proposition...

edited to reduce linux nerd replies :p

Our company is cool with receiving the occasional package, but if you're getting more than one a week they tell you to give it a rest. What brought that on was last Christmas when internal deliveries were lagging because of the volume of stuff coming in from online shoppers having their stuff delivered to work.

If you are having trouble with the command line interface (CLI), then install the GUI package manager, Synaptic.

If that still gives you problems, then try FreeBSD. With FreeBSD, you have your choice of pre-compiled packages or ports, that you can compile yourself.

How could you possibly have a problem with the console?!

If the apt management will not accept packages for you and you can not get them at work; then you have only two other choice. Both you have figured out.

Friends - out of luck at this point. - You stated that you are new to the area.
Commercial mailbox - costly - will you save enough with your ordering to make it worthwhile?

However, check with the people who handle employee incoming mail at UNLV. They may be able to coordinate with you.

By the way, welcome to the valley.

but some places/carriers wont ship to PO boxes at the post office. You might want to look into that beforehand.

Are you sure about this? I work for a university and I have 4-10 packages shipped to work a month and no one has any issues about it at all. It's great, I get to sign for all of them in person. The only packages going through central receiving are USPS packages and the rest get delivered to the actual offices.

Not always.
I lived at a place that would not accept packages for us - they will NOT deliver to the office because the office will say no

Do you have any close friends? Ship the packages to a friend's house and arrange a time to pick them up.
