So let's say you have this horrible apartment manager who's a monster and you're moving out at the end of the month (theoretically of course). What have you done to get back at her?

I was thinking this was a "What have you done to get back at neighbors?" thread... damn...

Our downstairs neighbors play their music REALLY loud when they shower so they can hear it... and of course, the bass is cranked. My wife and I turn on the Altec Lansing speakers in the office to start, then we turn on my 500w system in the living room at full volume w/ the sub turned all the way up. HEHEHE... one of the office people called us saying they were complaining that their pictures were shaking off their walls. Poor babys... boohoo :D

HaHa, funny I should log on and see this thread: I just finished a letter in which I get back at my recently former landlady by throwing the law at her!

She sent back our deposit minus $75. for move-out carpet cleaning.

1) This is in violation of the Alaska Uniform Landlord and Tenant Act because she is attempting to hold us responsible for damages caused by normal nonabusive living.

2) We even had the carpets cleaned ourselves the evening before the inspection, which, by law we are not required to do! We did it anyway so as to make the apartment available for her to re-rent immediately and to ensure our entilement to full reimbursment of the deposit. We showed her that the carpet had been cleaned when we did the final walk-through and she seemed pleased and did not state anything about carpet damage on the inspection report. We think she charged us for carpet cleaning, pocketed the money without really having them cleaned before renting to a new tenant, since they obviously didn't need cleaning!

The letter I just sent is giving her the chance to return the remaining $75 of my deposit before I take her to court.

Some friends lived in an apartment for quite a while. The landlord refused to give back the deposit. He claimed it was their fault the wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom. (it wasn't bad) He offered to return the deposit, if they would repaper the bathroom. He was a greedy bastard, and no doubt hoped they wouldn't bother.

He was also very involved in his church... and didn't approve of them living together.

So they repapered the walls.... :) ceiling too :)

They used the strongest glue they could find. :) wouldn't want it to peel again, right? And used some very naughty wallpaper.. featuring couples....well coupling.. in just about every position it is possible to do it.

Looked good, too.

Since you guys started Apt stories...here's mine.

Many years ago, while in college, I lived in an Apt above an elderly couple. After about 2 months, I couldn't do any studying in my living room at my desk bec their TV was so loud; if I watched the same program they did, I didn't have to turn on my TV's volume. Although I had some area rugs, they didn't help. It drove me nuts. I tried the stereo routine, but it was too loud even for me. I tried to reason with them, but they didn't care and they wore hearing aids; maybe they didn't wear them at home, I don't know.

Management wasn't able to do anything or didn't care.

What did I do ?

I rolled up my area rugs, took my roommate's bowling ball and rolled it back and forth on the wood floors for about fifteen minutes at a time & dropped it on the floor a few times.

I could hear the downstairs tenant screaming about the noise; eventually they came upstairs and rang the bell. I hid the ball & answered the door.

When they asked what the noise was, I said "what noise?, I didn't hear anything because your TV is so loud !"

They got the point !

LOL

:D

There was an episode of CSI where a guy blew blood from his nose all over the walls.

Well it wasn't a 'revenge' thing, but the key to my front door didn't precisely match the lock, so I had to jiggle and pull the handle while trying the key to get it open. I was already pissed off about what I do not remember, but when I came home the lock was giving me trouble again, so I just threw my shoulder into the sucker and broke it open.

I split that facing which runs around the door frame. haha

So I bought a lag screw, drilled it across the split to pull it together, then slapped some wood putty along the crack, filled in the holes for that plate thingy, screwed it back on, painted it white to match. Got all my deposit back when I moved out.
