Some friends lived in an apartment for quite a while. The landlord refused to give back the deposit. He claimed it was their fault the wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom. (it wasn't bad) He offered to return the deposit, if they would repaper the bathroom. He was a greedy bastard, and no doubt hoped they wouldn't bother.
He was also very involved in his church... and didn't approve of them living together.
So they repapered the walls....ceiling too
They used the strongest glue they could find.wouldn't want it to peel again, right? And used some very naughty wallpaper.. featuring couples....well coupling.. in just about every position it is possible to do it.
Looked good, too.

HaHa, funny I should log on and see this thread: I just finished a letter in which I get back at my recently former landlady by throwing the law at her!
She sent back our deposit minus $75. for move-out carpet cleaning.
1) This is in violation of the Alaska Uniform Landlord and Tenant Act because she is attempting to hold us responsible for damages caused by normal nonabusive living.
2) We even had the carpets cleaned ourselves the evening before the inspection, which, by law we are not required to do! We did it anyway so as to make the apartment available for her to re-rent immediately and to ensure our entilement to full reimbursment of the deposit. We showed her that the carpet had been cleaned when we did the final walk-through and she seemed pleased and did not state anything about carpet damage on the inspection report. We think she charged us for carpet cleaning, pocketed the money without really having them cleaned before renting to a new tenant, since they obviously didn't need cleaning!
The letter I just sent is giving her the chance to return the remaining $75 of my deposit before I take her to court.
