Apartment rental questions

I was outside talking to another guy who lives in my apartment complex and he said monday the exterminator was out at our complex and had a key and let himself into everyone's apartment. I know the landlord/maintance people have done this before in the past as well. We never receive any notification of this either when people come into our apartments, it just happens. I suspect it has happened alot more without my knowledge as well. I was wondering what the laws (illinois) are about them just entering someones apartment. I was under the impression that unless it was an emergency we were supposed to get notification. I'd be happy if they'd just give us a little notice as to when someone will be entering our apartments and wonder what I can do....

You should always be notified. It will be on your lease what type of notice they have to give you, like 24 or 48 hour notice.

In your lease it might say that month extermination will occur and in that case they probably won't give you any notice. I get a calender from my landlord every month that lists things that are going to happen in that month.

I browsed through my lease and found nothing mentioned about them entering the apartment or extermination.....

I hate to complain about it, but I do feel like I should know when someone's coming into my home!

i have a shotgun set up on a chair so that when the front door opens unless you open it only a couple inches and cut a string a nice load of 10 gauge buckshot will come at you; I recommend this. He won't come in un-authorized more than once.

I don't know about Illinois, but in California the management is required to give notice at least 24 (maybe it's 48?) hours in advance that they are entering your apartment.

That is TOTALLY against the law in my state...if that happened to me the Exterminator would look awful funny with that wand sticking out of his ass
