apartment question: please look

okay me and my roommate rented this apartment at the end of the august with this guy. signed a lease for a year and everything was good.

last month after we mailed our cheques this notice came in the mail and told us we have to pay the rent to this company now. I was kinda skeptical of that since the guy who rented the apartment to us didn't even contact us about the matter. this week my roommate's payment was bounced back (returned mail) so maybe the notice was right.

here are my questions:

is it our fault that they didn't get the payment on time? I mean, it's not our fault that they notified us so late in the month...

they didn't tell you that you had to send the rent somewhere else?

they didn't tell you that the place had been sold to someone else?

that is dumb, what are they, a bunch of maroons? how can you pay them if they don't tell you where to send the money? :Q

Yes, it is your fault for not getting the payment to them on time. Of course, if you were never told the correct payment address by the landlord, then you cannot be held responsible. Contact the company and explain the problem, and you should be able to work it out. Usually the worst thing to do with a creditor is to not contact them.
