Yesterday night, me and my friend finally finished building our own arcade joystick. We were psyched and went to try it out. I turned my sound sound system a little louder than usual. I would say about 2 minutes, the neighbor above us came down and told us to turn the subwoofer down.
Here's the problem. He has two little ritalin kids on speed. For two months they've been serious
b!tches by jumping up and down nonstop. Now that he opened the pandora's box, my bro has decided to knock on their door everytime the kids start jumping. Do you guys think it is a good idea for my bro to do that?

If I were you UncleWai, I would contact the building management because in some areas, apartment renters are required to have carpet. If you live in such an area, the carpet would help both of you :)

If they constantly make too much noise, call the front office. I don't know how your apt complex works, but if someone's making too much disturbing noise between the quiet hours of 11PM until 8AM in my complex, you can report em. Three strikes against someone and they're evicted.

Well you see, my family doesn't want to have bad relationship with any neighbors, so for two whole months we did not say anything about it. Those kids were jumping up and down like the floor is a trampaline. Carpet won't help because the whole apartment shakes when they do that. But for me to only turn the subwoofer a little loud for 2 minutes and he came down to complain. My brother didn't take that very well.

If the guy wants to start complaining about noise but doesn't show any consideration for your family, then I don't see anything wrong with telling him several times that his brats needs to quiet down. If they continue to make noise, go to the apartment management. If they still make noise, consider calling the police and threatening a civil noise complaint.

If you plan to take that course of action, though, don't give them any reason to critisize you.

I despise noisy neighbors.

I despise noisy neighbors.

According to my experiences, in order to live quietly one has to be at least partly intelligent. This quietness should never be taken for granted. The more dumb and reckless a person is, the more noise he produces in an apartment building IMO.

When I lived in an apartment or condo, I always made a simple agreement with my neighbors: you don't bitch about my noise, I won't bitch about yours. You wanna complain about my noise, I will complain about yours. Very simple. When confronted by assholes, I always tell them: you don't want trouble, don't start it.

Go for it. They opened up the subject. Talk to the guy first about it. It he does not respond then go to building management.

You might be surprised. I've had this problem twice and each time after I talked to the people above me it stopped.
Some times people just don't realize there is a problem.

buy a single family house,
then you will have the problem i do,

Old house,OLD windows, and no insulation in the walls, noise comes thru the closed windows, almost as if they were open 2 inches. :(
i just bought 2 new windows today,to install in a side room, replacing old windows, and i hope thta helps the noise some.
:(

After moving about 7 times already (I'm 18), I know how noisy neighbors are. My dad got especially pissed and he would make even more noise to piss them off as well. I probably woulda done the same thing because of my short temper, but now I've pretty much controlled it, so I find it easier to handle those situations.

Well anyway, the thing that works the best is if you just write them a letter or note. They pretty much have to read it, and if their kids continue to jump up and down then just confront them.

However, if you want I can ask my dad for "methods of annoyance by noise."

LOL, this guy is seriously a stupid @$$hole, unfortunately he messed with the wrong man.

Last weekend, his hyper kids jumped nonstop again while I was waching NBA.
I decided to knock on their door and this tard opened the door and started saying "you have to go contact the front office". I knew he was too stupid to have an intelligent discussion regarding the situation, so I just left.
Today, my bro went to the front office and realized he has already jumped the gun and filed a complaint regarding my 2 minutes noise problem. The front office say they will contact him, but I really doubt it. What other legal options do I have before I rely on thug tactics?

LOL - if they can't come to a reasonable workable situation w/ you just give them the eye for an eye - if they won't back down, you shouldn't either.

Wait a sec - then are you saying that people that listen to music at moderate/high levels are dumb? I would call it more inconsiderate if at inappropriate times but definitely not dumb.
