In my college town of bellingham, I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time searching for places to move into next month. My current lease runs out August 28, and I'm going to be gone August 1-18 - so basically I need to find something now.

And this is whats happening...either the places I like are not going to open up till mid august, so I can't look at them - or they are open right now and I'd have to pay extra rent, or they are just bad apartments, or nice but way too expensive.

I found one that *probably* would be perfect...its in a secluded wooded area, and has a pool, workout room clubhouse, and sauna - and its reasonably priced! BUT - I can't look at the friggin thing because every single apartment in the complex is occupied. The floor plan seems just about right....but it would be nice to see the inside. I think I want to live there, and seeing as its all completely occupied it can't be bad...

any thoughts or advice or past experiences?

I'd just go with the full one. Is there anything you're picky about, like needing lots of light, or anything you're avoiding?

Another solution, albiet odd, is to just go yourself and knock on someone's door and explain to them...

I'd go with that one, especially in B-ham. There are a lot of college-kid rat-traps in that area. :(

For starters, I'd at least put in applications with the places you like but can't look at right now. If they're opening up before your lease expires, at least they can go over your application, do the credit check and all that fun stuff. That way they can tell you if you're kosher or not ahead of time, in case you really like one of those places. That would save you time in the long run. They might even be willing to give you first dibs on the place if you get approved.

In the meantime, you know anyone you could crash with temporarily if you can't get a new place before the lease is up? If worse came to worse, you could possibly rent a spot from a self-storage place and put some of your stuff in there for the time being.

Just some thoughts. Hope this is of some help. Good luck!

Entity, indeed there are a bunch of rat-traps that I've had to sift through here in B-ham. It certainly makes ths place seem a lot more attractive...

Encryptic, the problem with putting in apps to places, is that pretty much everyone in bellingham charges a $20-30 application fee. Good advice with the storage unit idea...if worse comes to worse I might have to do that. I really just want to get this done with though!

FFMCobalt, indeed! Roommates can be scary. Fortunately, I've found a coo' person to live with. (You never know though!)
