Apartment construction noise - on the weekends - normal?

Is it normal for these guys to be replacing the siding on the apartment buildings on the weekend? I could understand Mon-Fri 9 to 5 but my landlord has the crew out here on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Seems a bit obnoxious to me.

It's going to take x hours to do the job. Whether they work weekends or not doesn't change the number of days they'll be out there. The disturbance to you will be the same either way.

How do you figure the disturbance is the same?

I work Monday through Friday 9 to 5 so I don't hear it on weekdays. I only hear it on the weekends.

You looking to ATOT to give you permission to feel justified when you complain to your landlord?

And you're the only person on earth. What color is the sky in your world? The disturbance is the same, whether you hear it or not is irrelevant.

And now, like the pathetic narcissist you are you're going to get your panties in a bunch and attack anyone with the sense to disagree with your selfish view of the world. Newsflash zippy, that's everyone except you.

It's pretty typical from what I've seen in my area. Apartment management seems to go for whoever can get the job done the quickest and the lowest cost, this typically involves having the crew work on weekends.

The only thing a contractor says is "I will have this work done by this date."

If construction falls behind, or a guy hurts his knee, or somebody's kid gets sick, the contractor will be there the weekend before the due date working 16 hour days to make up for it, because late fees suck.

Welcome to entrepreneurship.

Many construction contracts will specify when work will or will not take place. In nice residential areas it is just poor form to work odd hours. The smart contractors won't be making a bunch of noise and dust on a weekend morning in a neighborhood full of potential customers. The desperate ones needing to work 7 days a week to make ends meet because they lowball every job so they can work for management companies that only care about price and deadlines will have no problem being a nuisance to others.

OP lives in a ghetto is all I can figure.

Siding is a lot more difficult to work with when it's cold out - landlord may have been looking for a contractor who can fit the job in before the snow starts flying.

There may be some ordinances against construction (and noise) on the weekends, depending on your location. Check it out and call it in.

True. My "experience" has mostly been watching and talking to commercial construction guys. Odd hours might even be an advantage in that case, since it wouldn't impede customer foot traffic.

Apartment buildings in my world (suburbia) are usually separated from their neighbours by a parking lot or two.

Some HOAs do not allow such work on weekends because most of your neighbors will be relaxing.

Call the city, they probably have restrictions on when non emergency construction work can be performed.

Meh, the business below me moved and they are remodeling it into an apartment. So far the guys have only showed up half a day on Friday morning when they feel like it. Since I'm a night owl it's a PITA. You got to love getting woke up by a sawzall below your bed at 7AM. I thought it was a motorcycle lol.

If that's not bad enough my air conditioner fan locked up so it was a muggy 81F in here last night. Thank god it's 53F right now. At least I got my living room down to 75F :\

These guys are out here running saws below my bedroom window at 8 in the morning on the weekend. What a joke. Going to have words with my landlord about this.

Depends on your city regulations. NYC for example does not allow weekend work without prior approval. If even then it could only be quiet work on Saturdays. No Sundays.
