None of this matters. The SEC still rules all college sports and Auburn is going to win the NCAA Football championship this year. War Eagle!

Miami news conference is still scheduled for 4pm, but they apparently told the ACC beforehand, and we know how good the ACC is at keeping secrets :)

Got a bad feeling that Miami will be massacreing Duke and UNC for costing them a championship game as well as not including any yankee schools in the mix

Seriously, put soccer on that list not lacrosse. You only put lacrosse for your hometown pride. :p

Interesting to see what will happen now? Miami and VT shouldn't even be called "sellouts", they need to create a new word that means "will backstab my own parents for money if you pay me enough". While we're at it, why don't the top twelve programs in the country just get together and create a conference like we've never seen before? And people wonder why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer in this country... it will soon be the same way as baseball and the Yankees before the salary cap (if that even exists today). Who wants to watch a super team (or conference) win everything all the time? The BCS/NCAA will have to regulate their fiscal policy better or college football will eventually become like baseball, a declining fan base. This is just the first step, mark my words.

Virginia Tech is who should really look bad. First they sue Miami. Then when they get an invitation, they drop the suit and join up before Miami makes a decision.

This won't be an issue in a few years. All will be forgotten. Just look at Texas. They left the Southwest Conference for the Big 12......and nobody really remembers it. 1996 I believe.

I agree that they are the top money making conference, but they haven't been doing too hot in championships recently. They recently split a record $102 million between the twelve schools. It is that kind of money that the ACC has their eye on.

This is interesting. Now what is the fallout?

  • In football, does the Big East still deserve it's BCS credentials?
  • Does the ACC pick up an extra bowl bid with the addition of Miami and VT?
  • In corollary, does a bowl franchise jump the Big East ship to follow the ACC? (Not this year because of contracts, but the next year?)
  • Will the ACC teams earn more or less per team in basketball television revenues with 2 extra teams?
  • Can UConn afford to keep it's football team?
  • Will Notre Dame be gracious and sacrifice it's football independent's status for the betterment (and perhaps salvation) of the Big East?
  • Will the loss of TV revenue and Title IX kill off Big East programs?
  • Is this the end (for a long while) or the beginning of conference realignments?

LMAO! The Big East was offering more money than the ACC not to mention the penalty / entry payments Miami has to pay. Perhaps you should back your theory with actual facts next time.

On behalf of all the Tar Heel fans who DO want a superconference, let me just extend our warmest welcome to Miami and Virginia Tech.
On behalf of all the Tar Heel fans who do NOT want VaTech, let me extend a great big :frown::p to the Hokies . . . one of the few Div I football programs that can make Miami graduation rates look reasonable.

In football, does the Big East still deserve it's BCS credentials?
The Big East can kiss the BCS goodbye unless they can corral the Irish.

Does the ACC pick up an extra bowl bid with the addition of Miami and VT?
No . . . it means second tier teams NCSU, UVA, MD must climb over one another to get a bid, while UNC and Clemson may join Wake and Clemson as perennial cellar dwellers with no hope of a postseason. Duke . . . well Duke just sux.

In corollary, does a bowl franchise jump the Big East ship to follow the ACC? (Not this year because of contracts, but the next year?)
More likely the ACC gets more mid-majors while the Big East gets leftover bowls.

Will the ACC teams earn more or less per team in basketball television revenues with 2 extra teams?
The ACC will probably hold the line or lose a little in per team revenue for bball but the football playoff and upcoming football broadcast contract will more than make up for it.

Can UConn afford to keep it's football team?
Nope . . . few Div I programs make net on football . . . CT taxpayers wasted some serious cash.

Will Notre Dame be gracious and sacrifice it's football independent's status for the betterment (and perhaps salvation) of the Big East?
Nope, with Ty on board they will feed well at the NBC trough and remain a 1st tier member of the Big East in the other sports.

Will the loss of TV revenue and Title IX kill off Big East programs?
Only the ones that deserved to die . . . most of those programs could drop football and have a net gain on their balance sheets. The Big East had no hope of keeping up in the football arms wars (stadiums, practice facilities, under the table cash). In the long run the Big East will be healthier without football.

Is this the end (for a long while) or the beginning of conference realignments?
The Big East will do something to keep the dominos falling.
