I'm a little closer to finishing a new build tonight, no better way to spend a new years for me :) But before I started to seat the CPU Heat-sink onto my Dark Hero board I started thinking, what board would be better to game on? The Dark Hero has some OC option that honestly I really never looked into as I was going to use the board to upgrade my old X58 daily rig platform, and is basically Ryzen 5000 series ready. A beta bios of AGESA 1190 is already out for the Dark Hero, while the Xtreme is still on AGESA 1110. I currently own both boards and the Xtreme is being used in the gaming rig. Both will be running Vermeer chips really soon. I currently have a 5800X installed in the Hero, and the Xtreme is using a 3800X. So before I take this next step with installing the CPU HS, which would make a turn-around harder, what board between these two would you use in you gaming rig if you had a choice?

The super new parts feelings still hasn't worn off yet

I don't think dynamic OC switcher is really relevant for gaming in any meaningful way. I also don't think it's very meaningful for the single CCD SKU's as they have lower all core boost clocks that could be nearly or totally matched with a simple static overclock instead - no substantial benefit to having it switch between a static all core and default or PBO/Curve Optimizer boost like the 5900X or 5950X.

Also I've noticed my Dark Hero fairly commonly fails to switch from default boost to the static all core. It's a very transient issue and as soon as the load lightens or stops and restarts it switches correctly (such as cancelling a benchmark and restarting or a break in the loading). Maybe it's simply a UEFI bug that can be fixed through further updates from Asus.

I honestly can't say I think there is any substantial difference between either board for gaming.

I just had to make this decision recently to use with a 5950x. I decided on the Aorus Ultra over the Hero. Xtreme was just too expensive for not enough feature upgrades. The biggest differences I could find are the DAC, which doesn't matter to me because I'm using an external DAC and AMP. The 10GbE (which I'm going to add my own in the last PCIe 4.0 4x slot. I also like the 3 M.2 NVMe slots and extra PCIe 4.0 4x slot, available in both motherboard versions.. Everything just aligned with what I need.

Compare Result | Motherboard | GIGABYTE (comparison between the Xtreme, Master and Ultra).

I ended up receiving the 1.2 revision which is ready for the 5000 series CPUs.
