Hi all,

I'm getting a new Biostar mobo with nForce2 that has an AGP 8X slot. Since it's not compatible with 4X/2X then I have to get a new 8X video card. I'm not a big gamer and I've been living with 16MB TNT.

Since I don't want to spend too much money, it seems the GF4 MX440 8X is my only option. Is this true? It seems "lower" ATI cards are not compatible with AGP 8X.

I searched and found the AOpen card to be affordable (about $50). Is this a decent choice? Can I do better? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

An 8X slot works just fine with 4X cards. No cards really benefit from more than 4X yet.

A used geforce3 from the FS/FT forum would be a much better $50 card than the gf4 mx which is slower than Gump.

yeah. a 4x card is fine. honestly, i recommend just getting a 4200 just in case you do one to game once in a while and it has a high resale value

I agree with the used GF3 for approx. the same price, best way to go for 50$ or so.

New AGP 8x slots will work with AGP 4x graphics cards Upwards, ensure that yours is AGP 4x because this will mean it's compatible with the lower 1.5V setting....if it's not then it can effect/damage the motherboard.
