the layout on that board looks like cr@p!

1) i dont think youll fit an alpha cooler in that thing.
2) you have to remove the vid card to r&r memory.

i think ill pass....

Yeah, the 45 degree NB is WAY too close to the CPU. It is good to see that the GB boards are finally showing up though.

Yeah quite a surprise, it came out of nowhere. When is the gigabyte expected to hit? I hope it isn't as expensive as this one.

I dunno about the 8INXP, but Googlegear told me that they would have the ASUS P4G8X in stock this week, but had no price for me. After seeing the Aopen go for $215, I'm expecting something like $230 for the regular and $250 for the Deluxe probably, but again, just a guess.

Dammit Thugs, one of our local retailers may have some in stock quite soon, but now you mention that, I'm re-considering! Oh well, I might as well wait for the Asus board. :|:D I'm glad you mentioned these points though, because now looking at it, there is no way my Swifty will fit either!

I think you guys are getting excited over nothing. I haven't seen a cooler out there that is bigger than the P4's retention bracket, so I doubt big coolers would be a problem. My Alpha 8942 lines up pretty much right on where the P4 retention bracket used to be. As for the AGP card and memory slots, this is a problem all too common. I would say 90% of current motherboard have this layout issue, and most of us have learned to live with it. The Asus Granite Bay board does nothave this issue, so if this is a really big deal to you, this would be one of a handful of motherboards you will be happy with.

That price isn't too bad considering how much an 850E board plus memory would cost. Some of us already have ddr memory. A second stick wouldn't cost as much as getting an 850E board plus rdram.

The Switftech MXC4000 may be a problem though. I know it definately goes outside beyond the motherboard retention brackets. But I guess you could just settle to use the stock HSF with this board.

Who is going to use low-end DDR with these boards? Most XMS modules are in par or even higher in price relative to RDram.

As far as memory goes, I think the argument is that there is no reason to buy the expensive stuff since no memory ratios are available with Granite Bay. Since you are limited to running your memory in sync with the CPU, there is no reason to get anything above PC 2700 DDR since most P4's don't overclock beyond 166 FSB.

Yep if I get one it'll be with another stick of pc2700 samsung. I already have one 512mb stick. If getting an 850 board you would need 2 sticks of pc-1066 or one PC-4200 if using the board that uses the 32 bit memory. In order to have comparably performance. PC-1066 or PC-4200 costs about $250ea. PC-2700 costs about $140ea.
