AOPEN CDRW-1232 FLASH QUESTION???

I have a aopen cdrw-1232, which I hear is basically a ricoh...Is this true? Can I expect the Aopen to perform like its ricoh counterpart 7120a? Or does the drive for oems lack same chipset or firmware is different as not to include all of ricoh's patented features?

If true to aopen=ricoh question...can I reasonably assume I can flash this thing to a ricoh drive? Will this possibly enable any features that may be disabled for oem resell?

Would appreciate any help on this subject....
