Aopen AK86-L BIOS problem

I just updated my motherboard to the latest bios, r1.11. I can change the settings for the cpu voltage, dimm voltage, and others and they will stay fine. The mulitplier is defaulted at 6. I have a 3400+ processor so the multiplier should be 11. I can exit the bios and boot into windows and the correct processor speed is listed. Whenever I restart the computer either by a quick restart or a cold boot, the multiplier is changed back to 6. I have had this problem since bios 1.08c. The other changed settings are staying the same. It is only the multiplier that is changing. What am I doing wrong?

It may be a "bug" in the bios. On my AOpen AK89 Max, I can change the multiplier in the bios, but regardless of that setting, it boots at 10x. This sounds all too similar to your multiplier problems. All the other bios changes go through, unless of course, that overzealous (I would say rediculous) bios watchdog feature decides to kick in. These are some of the reasons I use clockgen for overclocking.

You may try posting your question on the AOpen forum. I haven't personally found that forum helpful, but who knows?

AOpen is making some nice A64 boards for a great price, but I have come to the conclusion that they are still a few notches short of being good enthusiast boards. Well, at least that's my opinion on the AK89 Max. And I would say the reasons are all related to how AOpen has made the bios so protective that it is just plain limiting. For a non-overclocking board, it is very nice. I am, obviously, a little frustrated since I was so hopeful about the AK89 Max and had some early positive results. Unfortunately, between that bully of a bios and absoluately zero response from AOpen after many communication attempts, I probably won't buy an AOpen board again.
