There have been many threads on this topic. While artificial benchmarks will show little benefit for the extra 64MB of video ram, I personally think it is worth it. When playing games at high resolutions that tax a video card, a 128MB version is smoother and stays ahead in minimum frame rates.
For example: Doom3 will reportedly use 80 MB of memory for textures. If you had a 64 meg card, your system will have to start to use your much slower system memory to store some textures. This will result in performance hits.
