I got in on the Compusa Iomega deal so don't have a need for this but I think this is Hot. I believe from other posts that this is a rebagded Plextor with burnproof. From all reports, newegg.com seems legit.

Not bad, not bad at all. I had to pay 145 for the compusa deal, and am currently waiting for the rebate (stupid compusa person wouldn't give me a credit to the cc).

I bought this for $135 today at Allstar shop. Super loud but overall seems to work great no errors on 5 CD's so far.

I bought this $135 Aopen 12x10x32xMP3 drive from newegg.com and it was shipped immediately (and free!) and arrived exactly as described. It is a nicely packaged full retail box with Nero 5, Norton Ghost (to make your own "restore" disk), Formosoft Gamut 2000 MP3 Tools, a couple of blank CDs, and all the screws and cables (even audio!). All the disks are even in full size jewell cases and sealed for your protection. It's going in a new system that is awaiting a very late T-bird from Upgrade Planet so I can't yet say how it works. The drive supposedly does not have "burn-proof" or "Justlink" as Acer calls it - it only has "OPC" which is just a laser power regulation scheme. Personally, I don't see the big deal with burn-proof because most modern systems have plenty of power to keep up with a 12X burn unless you are currently trying to debug some really nasty java or something during the 6 minute burn. The model number is CRW1232 (no A), P/N:91.47D37.011, and the mfg date is 01/01. The tray is the cheesey flip down door style but otherwise the drive appears very well made. It does DAE at 13.5X, can be mounted vertically, and has both digital and analog audio outputs on the back with headphone and volume on the front so it is a great replacement for an old reader or a great "only" drive in a new system. The deal is still hot, still available, and reviews of the drive are here:

OPC is not coaster protection... more like error protection. Keeps the laser stable so the data is correct. OPC won't do diddly if you get a buffer underrun. I wish some of these review sites would get it right.

The CRW1232 is based on the Ricoh MP7120.. Good drive. CRW1232A is based on the Ricoh MP7125 and is pretty fast. Does DAE at 32x and all that stuff. Easiest way to tell the difference is the cache size. CRW1232 has 4mb.. the A model has 2mb.

Keep in mind JustLink does not have the software support that BURN-Proof does yet.

Nice deal for anyone looking for a non "Burn-Proof" drive. I didn't think "Burn-Proof" was a big deal until I got my TDK...wow I'm a believer now.

I'm with Bad MuleS on this one..."Burn-Proof or bust for me 😀"

Would have to call that a warm deal. Multiwave (mwave.com) has them for 129 but they will charge you for shipping.

They also have an Acer 12/8/32 burner for $129.

However, if you're going the cheap route and don't care about burn proof, Mwave also has Samsung and NEC 8x burners under a 100 bucks. Flip a coin on which one to get, neither are likely to be Plextor quality.

Can't do a direct link to their items, but here's the category.

Mwave has top notch customer service. I order from them a lot.

I have this drive, i'm happy with it. Hasn't given me a coaster at 12x yet and i have used it with a couple of insanely cheap cd-r (silver with a slight green reflexion, Memorex) have had it for 3 weeks now. The drive itself is solid and it sells pretty cheap compared to others, but as freestyle says, it's pretty loud.

Burnproof won't make much of a difference if you have a good computer unless your doing some intensive work or are trying to rip and burn at the same time IMHO.

Good buy IMO
