AOL/Virginia passes anti-Spam Law

From the article
To qualify for the felony provisions the sender must:

consciously (with intent) alter either e-mail header or other routing information (a technical characteristics common to most unsolicited bulk mail, but not present in normal e-mail messages); and

attempt to send either 10,000 messages within a 24/hr period or 100,000 in a 30-day period OR the sender must generate $1,000 in revenue from a specific transmission, or $50,000 from total transmissions.

Its a clear definition. Alter the headers and send over 10,000 emails in day and its illegal.

If this is truly only an Anti-Spam law that they didn't put overly braod wording in and this is not another sdmca then great.

Lately Viagra and Penis Growth Spam has outnumbered the persistent Nigeria crap.

This will simply have to go into the Politics and News forum, because it will soon be peppered by posts from our resident left wing, ACLU supporters, bitching about the errosion of our First Amendment rights.

Personally, I'm all for it!

I know, that is why I posted it here.

If that Law is truly worded to only be going after Spammers then I of course am all for it too.
Same here. As long as it's not another overly broad piece of legislation like the DMCA or CBDTPA, I'm for it.

Not this left winger. I hate spam and I'm all for laws against it. Frankly I think it is an invasion of my privacy when people obtain my email address without consent.

Well that's what we will see and I'm sure very shortly. There is a large debate taking place of what exactly Spam is.

Here is a word of a website jobnetworking.org , this is being said that I just Spammed you simply typing the word of a website. If that is truly considered to be actual Spam I would be subject to Felony charges with huge Jail time and potentially millions of dollars in fines.

You do not have to look at the word, in order to see the website itself you would have to copy and paste the word into your Browser and I could've made that easier by making it a live hyperlink that you certainly don't have to physically click on that of you want to either.

AT&T Cell phone Customer phones get wiped out by Spam and they have to pay for new phones!

AT&T is offering new phones for $10 plus shipping and handling to customers that got a E-mail Spam message over the weekend that wiped out their address book and rendered all E-mail capability of the phones dead.

I don't have a link for this yet but I saw the News at the CTIA site.

I will post more info as it comes in.
