To make a long story short, my grandmother is probably going to go buy a new laptop tomorrow, and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come with the RPC patch for WinXP. I'd tell her to turn on the XP firewall until she gets Windows Update going, but since she uses AOL, I'm not so sure this can be done(since I don't have experience with AOL and WinXP). Can she put up some kind of firewall with AOL(or even does AOL already protect port 135), or is she going to be a sitting duck the minute she logs on?
