AOL not detecting modem

I'm trying to set up an internal dial-up modem on this computer before I give it to my family. The is installed with the latest drivers, and it shows up fine in the Device Manager (Win98). But when AOL 8.0 searches for connection devices, the dial-up modem does not show up. Only the TCP/LAN connection. Any ideas of how to get it to detect?

AOL installs its own drivers. Try installing a new connection manually from within AOL. If you are connected by broadband, you might have to turn that off to force the issue - it is taking the easy way out that it "sees."

It looks like an IRQ problem, except that I don't know much about IRQ's. I'm in Windows 98. The modem shows up as a ? PCI card on IRQ 5. But in the modem properties there's an option to put it either on COM1 (IRQ 4) or COM2 (IRQ 3). How do I resolve this?
