AOL & Kazaa doesn't work!

I just installed an 802.11B wireless networking kit. The router is on the other computer and the computer that i'm on right now works. But i can only get it to works with internet explorer. Anything else like AOL instant messenger, Kazaa Lite, Quake 3 doesn't work. They kept on thinking that i'm not connected to the internet. Can anyone answer this simple problem?

You might need to open up the ports on your router to allow for it. I don't know them off hand but look up "router ports" or something similar on Google. I'm surprised they still even need ports unless you're using very old versions of AIM and Kazaa.

oh so you're saying that it's the router that's blocking those ports? okay.

okay, i found out that i have to do something with the DMZ. can you lead me to the right direction?

what brand of router do you have?

those shouldnt need ports opened in the router, aim and kazaa will work fine normally.


you might need to setup your network connection in windows again, if the wireless is new. the fact that ie is workign is a bit puzling.
