Just got the unfortunate email about this. It's like an old friend that moved away a long time ago that you don't have any contact with, but now you find out he's dying. No real reason to be sad but I kind of am anyway.

Hah, wow. That brings back memories of QBasic programming & Counter-strike. Man, those were the days!

Who would have guessed it still existed. It was pretty awesome in the 90's before cell phone texting though.

I still have my ICQ account 5064** active. Haven't used AOL Instant Messenger since the late '90s.

I remember when MSN got shut down, I was kinda sad, I still used it (via Pidgin) to chat with some friends, and also lot of internet friends where it was the only contact method I had. Then they pulled the plug so I lost contact with lot of those people. Mostly old guild members from UO and such.

Come to think of it, is there even any IM services left now? I guess there's FB, but I don't really count that one as FB is more of a family/IRL friend thing, you don't go giving that out to random internet people, typically.

Same thing happened to me with MSN. I used Triilian though. Still use it today mostly for a Twitter feed on my desktop and E-mail alerts. I had a few good friends I met from England and Scotland playing Command & Conquer Generals Zero hour.

Aww.:(

I still use it. It's still the only open & robust IM network. Every other network is closed off with crappy proprietary clients.
