AOL now offers a Blackberry Pager device that its users can use to access email and instant messanging... the device is $329 and the service is an extra $19.95 for existing unlimited customers (which costs $21.95 right now)

Any thoughts on it?

no doubt AOL sucks...

but AOL instant messenger is the most popular internet messaging service in the US, and having wireless access to that is pretty powerful.

and you can get AOL's dial-up access and the wireless access for $42 total monthly, which is less than many advanced pager's monthly service charges.

just my $.02

I thought ICQ would be the most popular from of Instant Messaging.. Maybe Im wrong?

I personally know about 20 times more people that have ICQ, instead of AIM.. And a lot of people I know, havent even heard of AIM.

I have been with AOL for over 3 years, and I still enjoy using the service. However I sign on thru TCP/IP instead of a dial up. :)

It's just improper grammar on Anandtech to say something "sucks." That's all.

Aside from how much "AOL is suck" though, no one thinks a wireless connection to the Instant messenging service would be useful/cool?

that's too expensive plus aol isn't good. Until aol team up with roadrunner and have cable then I might think about it.
