AOL Broadband connection question

Nocturnal

I have a question for those with or use AOL Broadband either Bring Your Own Access or just as an entire package. Basically if you go through Time Warner Cable and you have AOL BYOB, can you or can?t you access the internet WITHOUT signing onto AOL first? If AOL is the gateway then how or where does it get the gateway information if you HAVE to connect through AOL first? Isn?t your connection ALWAYS on if you have AOL Broadband through TWC?

I had a phone call two days ago from a customer who has AOL but has broadband through TWC. Basically she said she couldn?t connect to AOL. She told me that she was referred to AOL and then back to us because she could not even connect to the internet or get a web page going with internet explorer (WITHOUT SIGNING ONTO AOL FIRST). So what happened was I transferred the customer to tier 3 tech support. I got into trouble because you can only access the internet by signing INTO the AOL client/software and then using IE. I thought this ONLY mattered if you?re dialing up since duh, you don?t have any connection prior to dialing up but you already have a broadband cable modem connection through TWC.

Can someone confirmed whether or not you have to sign into AOL software/client first before you can access anything ONLINE. Thank you for your time.
