I am a non-AOL user who uses the AIM program. If someone who uses AOL for internet access or even just email through a LAN logs on, can I see them on my AIM buddy list? And furthermore, will they get my messages even if their AIM is not on?

Yes (assuming the LAN is also connected to the WAN)... No (They won't recieve your messages if they are offline)

as long as they are logged into their aol aim client...u can see them. the ppl using the aol browser have the option of closing the aim client that is built into aol. i think...

there is an option to prevent other people from seenig you. You basically setup AIM to only show your userid as active (online) if the other person is on your buddy list.

in ICQ, you can send msgs regardless the recipient is on or offline.. they'll eventually receive it when they log on.. kinda like emails..

but I hate ICQ though.. so slow.. AIM all the way

what happens when someone tries setting up an AIM account with the screen name the same as that of someone with that screen name who is on AOL?

Basically, when you sign up for AOL, do you get that screen name reserved in AIM? So... no one on AOL can have the screen name "FFMCobalt"??
