Before you say AOL sucks and is crap, I already know. Its just the fact I get it 100% free or I would be using a different mail client.

If I leave AOL open and am using my firefox or IE, then click back to aol to do anything, it will just freeze for a while then come back to life. This happens on all my computers running XP, vista, 7. So it is the software.

Often I will click on a link or video and a blank page will come up and sit forever. If I then paste that URL into firefox or IE it will work perfect.

Any idea?

I would think aol would have fixed their bugs by now.

Problem is I have had these certain email addresses since high school (1998). I have kept them clean and they are well known to all friends and people I have met over the years. I am not interested just yet in switching to new email addresses.

I kinda wanted to see if anyone else has this problem / solution. If not I will add my addresses to outlook / thunderbird and call it a day.

You dont have to switch... set up a forward in AOL to your new gmail and set the reply to email in gmail to the AOL address.

ta-da!
then you can even let people know "hey... even though the AOL is still active, if you could start using the gmail address for the future... "

FACT:
Even if you pay to keep an AOL email address active, there is NO REASON TO USE THE AOL SOFTWARE.

Period.

Just curious, did AOL ever overcome their habit of REBRANDING YOUR ENTIRE F^$&ING COMPUTER?

I believe that AOL still uses Trident (IE) for their browser. We call it "IE Lite" (kinda like Bud Lite, but tastes better...for whatever that's worth...).

Do you have issues when standalone browsers aren't running, and you restore AOL's browser?

just go to aol.com to check your mail. Thats what I do for my old accounts. I wouldn't let the aol software touch any of my computers.
