I really didn't want to put this virus on my PC, but I needed to do something online that can only be done using their software.
After installing it, everytime I open explorer and I misstype something or the website is not there anymore, it goes into an automatic search mode !!! even if I go to internet options and I select "do not search from address bar" and I say apply .. nothing happens ! when I open explorer again it goes back to that search mode ..
If no one can help me I am going to reformat my drive ...

Well, it looks like you kind of knew what a crap piece of software AOL is. Unfortunately, it is a REAL mess if you ever decide to uninstall it.

What version of IE are you using ? I have found from my experience that 5.5 is the most reliable one, as 6 is crap. But if you've got WinXP, then you are in trouble. However, WinXP Pro with Service Pack 1, I think you can actually REMOVE IE and then re-install it.

IE 6 is just as good as 5.x, neither are good IMHO.

AOL will break your current setup no matter what you do, if you have XP try using System Restore to get back to before you installed it.

XP SP1 doesn't let you remove IE, it just hides the icons.
