Your friend might want to check out this site, that speeds AOL up. I've used it when I used to have AOL, and it worked great. Uninstallable as well. http://aolspeed.dhs.org/
I use AOL as a backup on broadband. It sets itelf up using TCP/IP and loads directly using broadband with no interruptions or batch files. Why change what works inherently?
