I started playing this last night. It's the first time I've tried any of the AOE games. I must say that it seems a little boring in the campaign mode. First couple are just build a bunch of units and kill the attckers. I thought I would get dropped off on an island and get to actually explore and build a colony before I was thrown into a war.
For those that have played the campaign, is it all like this or do I actually get to go and try and build a colony somewhere?

I'm thinking about just starting Civ4 instead of this, but I figure I'll give it a little more time before I give up on it.

I never enjoyed the single player games at all...

A lot of fun is from the multiplayer, but even still... build a bunch of units and attack... repeat... :(

I'm a huge fan of ES, the makers of the AOE series, however I loathe the single-player campaigns. Not that there are many RTS games that I don't dislike the single-player campaigns. It seems Blizzard has some handle on it, though.

So, play multiplayer with friends. It's all about the team multiplayer games for me. (though I wish they still had Regicide mode... though you can still play a Shimo game)

The AOE3 campaign is absolutely horrible. AOM's (Age of Mythology) was much better. AOE3 is much better online or in skirmish mode.

OK, well that makes sense. Haven't ever really gotten into multi-player for RTS games. It seems that there's always way too many people out there that are so much faster than I am at building an army, that it's no fun for me.

I used to ply Warcraft II on line and I would just get destroyed. Same thing for C&C Generals. But I really liked the skirmishes in Generals, so I guess I'll give them a try in AOE3. Otherwise it's on to CIV4.
